DAY 3 - Mini trek to Southwest Point Fort and Masks...and an end of day swim

On Wednesday we took a walk to Fort Southwest Point and got received a fascinating history of  the lives of settlers and the Cherokee Indians who inhabited the area. We learned about important figures such as Peter Avery (who forged the trail known as Avery’s Trace),  Colonel Meigs ( working as an indian agent in what later became Meigs County, TN),  and Henry Timberlake ( an early advocate for the rights of the Cherokee Indians). All of this history was told to us at the Museum at the Fort by Don a Cherokee descendant.

Later we got to work on some creative paper masks as well as learn a new game called Pterodactyl from the Community Center intern Brittany. We spent the end of the day with a very well deserved swim in the pool (where we all took more underwater camera pics).  It was a very fun and productive day!

Also we came across more Good News Bees and Cara and Macie both lured one to land on their fingers.

Day 2 - Glaze craze and Otter Pops!

Tuesday we applied surface design to our plates and bowls as well as paint underglaze before applying a clear overglaze. All the works were successfully put into the kiln later that evening. We had great weather and got to have an afternoon swim. We ate lunch at the park and learned about a friendly flying bee commonly called the "good news bee". I taught the campers how to attract by twirling your finger in a circle which lures the good news bee to land on your finger tip. Brayden was even able to have two land simultaneously on his finger and thumb (see picture below).
